Must remember failure is better than doing nothing at all. With failure at least you’ve accomplished something, which is better than accomplishing nothing.

I Didn’t Want This Job

Posted by Doz on Nov 19, 2009 in Doz's Blog, Work

I have been employed as the Snack Shop Assistant for TARC for almost two months now. It’s a job I didn’t want.  I had seen the job advertised for almost two months before I actually applied. I didn’t want to go back to this place that I had left almost seven years previous, but I had been out of work for seven months and I was about to be hired for a job I really didn’t want. So I made a call and then applied for this job.

The reason I didn’t want to go back to this job is because I had worked there for nine years the previous time. While the first six to seven years had been great I was beginning to suffer job burnout. Plus we had an Executive Director that was more interested in pushing the 7 HighlyEffective blah blah blah cult theme then he ever was in the people served or the staff that served them. I was tired of the screaming and the yelling and the behaviors (and that was just from my co-workers!) and my heart just wasn’t in it anymore. I didn’t care.  When you don’t care about the people that you are serving then it’s time to get out of human services. So I left.

Now seven years later I am back working for the same organization and loving it! When I wake up in the morning I am eager to get to work. I guess it fulfills a bit of a dream I used to have back when I worked my first job at  Pizza Hut.I always wanted to run my own store and in a way I am now doing that.

It’s kinda like having my own little corner diner or coffee shop. Everyone’s a regular and everyone knows my name(most of the time) and I know their names. I get to do the shopping and make choices about what we sell. When I come back from shopping and it’s in the middle of one of the break times I get greeted like Norm from Cheers.

All in all I’m very happy right now and that’s a good thing.

Unlike my propensity for not being able to ask someone out, sometimes things do change for the better and you can go back and enjoy yourself again.

Things Are Going Well

Posted by Doz on Oct 11, 2009 in Doz's Blog, Work, iPhone

Still loving the job. It’s nice to have a job that I like to be able to go in to. It’s almost like I never left.

It’s also nice to have a little bit of cash that I can spend.

I got a new Dell 23 inch wide screen HD Flat Panel monitor. It’s pretty awesome watching movies on it.

Then I got an iPhone 32 gig 3G S model in black. I was expectingto have to pay a deposit before I got it. The guy did some stuff on his screen and then called in. They told him they didn’t need to talk to me, and that I was fine to go. When he got off the phone he said he must have hit the button on the screen to many times. If I had had to pay a deposit I would have bought the 16 gig but I was able to get the 32 gig one which made me even happier.

I’ll post more tomorrow about the phone tomorrow if I get a chance.

Heck Of A Week

Posted by Doz on Sep 20, 2009 in Diabetes, Doz's Blog, Work

I went to take my pre-employment physical on Tuesday of this week. I had to fill out forms about all the meds I was on and any medical conditions I had. I put down that I was diabetic and was off my meds. They tested my blood sugar and I was at 425. With my blood sugar being that high they wouldn’t finish with the rest of the physical and would not approve me because part of the job I had been offered required me to drive. They won’t pass you if your Blood Sugar is above 300.

So with my possible job in jeopardy I called TARC to see what needed to be done.  They told me to go see my Dr. and they would work with me. The reason I hadn’t been on my meds or seen a Dr. was because of no insurance. Luckily I had enough money to go see the Dr. and get some test strips. My Doc is a great guy and is always willing to help me out. He gave me 3 sample pens for Levemir insulin.

So I went back on Friday and got my physical. Blood sugar was 295 and I passed everything else. Went home and called TARC and let them know.

Tomorrow (Monday) my seven months of unemployment ends as I return to work at TARC. I’m excited to be going back to work and I am excited about the possibilities that my new job is going to offer me.

Have to go to bed early so I can be bright-eyed for w0rk!

Hi Ho Hi Ho

Posted by Doz on Sep 8, 2009 in Doz's Blog

It’s off to work I go,or will soon will be.

I was offered a job today. It was the job I wanted and not the other one that I didn’t want. I’m sooo happy about that!

The position is Snack Shop Assistant at TARC . I worked at TARC for nine years before I quit in 1992 2002 to pursue other job opportunities. The position is considered part of management so that has it’s own perks. It’s Mon-Fri 8 AM- 4 PM and the pay is hourly. The benefits are great also. Not sure when I start because I have to do the piss in a cup thing for the drug test and after I pass that I’ll find out when I start.

The “OTHER” job was 60 hours a week, lower paying, and the benefits weren’t as good, and I would have been on call.  So even though I would have made more money because of the twenty hours of overtime it wouldn’t have been worth it.

Well I must get some sleep because the big Apple Event is tomorrow and I want to be well rested for that! :-P

Later!

Jobs

Posted by Doz on Sep 2, 2009 in Doz's Blog, Work

I had an interview this past Monday.  I’m afraid I’ll get the job and I’m afraid I won’t get the job.

The job is as an overnight person for people with disabilities. the position requires you to be awake during the whole shift which is no problem I can do that.  It may also require, depending  on the location, for the overnight person to do toileting and help bathe the person. Not sure I can really do this especially the toileting part. The pay rate is also a little lower than what I would like to be making. Of course the thing is that the pay rate is more than what I am making on unemployment.

If  I am offered the job of course I’ll take it because I need to work.  I’m tired of not having any money for some of the funner things in life.  Plus it would give me somewhere else to be other than here. Plus I’m not a lot of fun to be around right now because I don’t really have anything to talk about. Not that I was ever that much fun to begin with, but at least when I’m working Ihave a little bit more to talk about.

I do fear that if I get the job I’ll be there for a long time. I tend to get somewhere and stay for a long time. There aren’t really a whole lot of well paying jobs out there for people that have no skills.  Plus every job out there want’s a damn cover letter.  I have troubling extolling what I do well and why I should be chosen for this job or that one because I really don’t like myself that much. I was lucky on this last one because Sparky wrote my cover letter for me(Thanks Sparky!).

Well off to play bejeweled Blitz…again…
